Official Pinewood Derby Rules Posted

pic30931
The official rules that will be used for our Pinewood Derby Race in March are now posted on the site for all to read. Note that they are extensions of the official BSA Rules. The actual procedure of the race (who races when, how eliminations are handled, etc.) will be posted closer to the event itself.

Note: We will be holding race trials two weeks prior to the actual race. Trials are on March 1st and the race is on March 15th. Due to the size of the pack, it will be very difficult to help fix all cars on race day and we are strongly encouraging parents to have cars ready on the 1st instead and bring them to the trials to see if any further work is required to make them qualify. We will have a track set up for these trials so you can test out your cars at that time. In addition, any parents who make their own cars or siblings who make them will be welcome to race their cars for fun on this day (they cannot on official race day). We will have final inspection on race day and will help parents make their cars qualify but if you can do this on the 1st instead of the 15th, it would be a huge help. If any parents want to volunteer to be part of the official race day pit crew, please speak to Bob by March 1st.

Calendar Updates A-Plenty!

We have updated the pack calendar for events for the rest of the program year and through the summer. Please visit the calendar page and/or download the printable calendar for your fridge! Remember, the website is authoritative over the printed calendar and please verify you have the latest version of that (16 January 2008 as of this writing).

Tiger Go See It to WJAR - Thursday 24 January

The rest of the Tigers will be taking their tour to Channel 10 news station this Thursday, January 24th. They should arrive no later than 6:15 P.M. so that the tour can begin at 6:30 P.M.  Also they should be in full Class A uniform, including the Tiger Cub hat.

Thank You!

Thanks to everyone for coming out for the St. David's Cleanup and the Cookoff. We got a lot done and we had a blast at the cookoff! Great work everyone!

Two Calendar Changes of Note

We have updated the Pack Calendar (printable pdf version) as follows:

  1. The next Committee Meeting (Den and Pack leaders meeting, all parents are invited as well) is November 14 at 6:30 at St. David's
  2. The November 26th Den Meeting has been converted to a Pack Meeting. The theme is Native American Heritage.

Site Notes (Updated)

Hi all. It's your friendly pack webmaster here with some site updates you should know about.

First off, I have created "categories" that all postings on this page go into. This will let you find past site content easier than you previously could. For example, if you want to read one of the Cubmaster's earlier emails to the Pack, you simply look for "Cubmaster's Corner" down in the sidebar on the right and you'll be taken to a page with all of them. If you want to view past issues of the Akela's Corner newsletter, you look for "Akela's Corner (Newsletter)" in the same place. Same goes for events and general pack notices and more.

Second, Pictures are now up! If you have taken any pictures, email them to me at aaffleck [at] gmail [dot] com.

Finally, make sure to check out the Resources section of the site. There's a lot of neat stuff there for Den Leaders and parents. And, as always, remember that the Calendar on this website supersedes any printed calendar you have received. When in doubt, it is the final word.

Thanks everyone!

Assistant Cubmaster & Webmaster, Pack 6

New on the Site

A few new items scattered around the site you might want to know about...

  • In addition to our live dynamic, always changing google-based calendar, you can now also download the printable single-page calendar that was handed out at the Rally (and the version available here is already different than the one you have!). Visit the calendar page and check the right side of the page in the sidebar for a link (which will tell you the print date of the calendar so you can always be sure to get the latest and greatest edition).
  • The Pinewood Derby video from our 2007 Pinewood Derby is now online.
  • The slide show that was running in the corner during the rally is now online.
  • By popular demand, all of the individual photo galleries from last year have been restored!
  • Update: Added link to Cub Scout Leader Training on the Resources page.
  • Update: A Lost & Found page has been added to the site.

Enjoy!

Welcome Everyone!

Welcome everyone who signed up at our Rally on Monday! We had an incredible turnout and our pack has nearly tripled in size and more are still joining! We're hard at work planning out our program year and we'll have a lot more information for everyone on Monday night at your first official den meetings. Come to St. David's by 6:20 (it's good to arrive before 6:30 so that meetings may begin promptly at 6:30). We'll all gather in the main hall so Bob, our cubmaster, can address everyone and tell everyone where to go for their specific den meetings.

Anyone who registered and requires financial assistance with registration and uniform costs should e-mail our Cubmaster, Bob Dosdourian (cubmaster@cranstonpack6.org) with their name, address and phone number, as well as the number of registered scouts in their family. This information will be held in strictest confidence.

If you have any other questions, feel free to email Bob or any of the other pack/den leaders.

This is going to be an exciting year! And we're just getting started!
