Camping at Mt. Monadnock

489463
Pack 6 is headed to Mt. Monadnock, in Jaffrey, NH! We'll head up on Friday, 1 June and come back early Sunday, 3 June.

What to bring: See our camping information page. Scouts should bring their class B (yellow t-shirt) uniform for wearing on Saturday.

Safety Information: See our camping information page.

Plans for the time we're there: We are considering this hike (the white dot trail, see also this excellent site for more on this and the parallel white cross trail which is considered and easier descent). Let us know if you have any comments or suggestions. Also, all dens are asked to prepare a skit for Saturday's campfire. Need skit ideas? See http://www.scoutorama.com/skit/  and http://www.usscouts.org/skits.asp.

Driving North: Bob Dosdourian wrote up directions and information about carpooling and caravaning. The trip is about 3 hours. You will likely arrive at night. You will want a headlamp to set your tent up in the dark. And we will be helping so don't worry about this.

UPDATED: Weather: As of Friday AM, the National Weather Service is forecasting 80s during the day, low 60s at night with showers and thundershowers looking likely on Saturday (but possible Fri night and Sun morn). (Alternative weather via Weather Underground.) We are officially going! We'll make sure your tents are as ship shape as can be. Remember to bring rain gear just in case. Please see the camping information page for important thunderstorm safety information. (For up to the minute rain info, see the doppler radar...)

Other Notes:
  • Mosquitos are everywhere! Bring bug spray with DEET (it really is the best) or Cactus Juice (registered trademark)
  • The water is high in iron. Bring your own if you don't like to taste it.
  • Showers cost 25 cents for three minutes, 15 minutes max.
  • flush and pit toilets are available
  • PARKING is LIMITED. First ones to arrive might get the best tent sites but you will have to move your car to make room for later arrivals. Please be considerate and park your vehicle in the Parking Lot after you unpack your gear.
  • Consider packing some firewood, especially in case it rains!
  • It was hotter than here in the daytime and cooler at night when Bob checked it out last weekend.

Weather Update: We are on! There's spotty drizzle but it looks to be on the wane. So, barring any heavy rain starting, we are a go.

Pack 6 will be doing a pack-wide ride along the Cranston Bike Path on May 19 starting at 2PM!

We will be starting at the train bridge at Oaklawn Ave. and Wilbur Ave. (park on Wilbur on the other side of the bridge from Oaklawn). We will head south to the playground/ballfield on the corner of Railroad Row and Sue Street. Food and drink will be provided at the park. We'll eat, play, etc. and then head back. We'll go a little past the train bridge and hit Sundae's on Oaklawn to end the day.

Safety Notes: All participants are required to follow standard bicycle safety. When riding in traffic, ride with traffic (right side of the road) not against it. And helmets must be worn by all participants (children, parents, leaders) at all times while riding. Please also observe bike path safety. If you are passing someone, let them know you are doing so and stay on the right side of the path. Finally, make way for the faster riders on the path by staying to the right. Never pass on the right side.
